The DataGarden · Public Data Browser
Official statistics from many sources, in one table.
Eurostat, the OECD, the UN and national statistics institutes each publish in their own format. The Public Data Browser puts their figures on one schema: the same column names, region codes and time periods, whichever source a number came from, and each figure with its source's publication date.
| Region | Period | Field | Value | Source | Published Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NL | 2022 | population.total_male | 8,745,468 | Eurostat | 2024-03 |
| NL | 2022 | population.total_male | 8,890,013 | UN WPP | 2024-07 |
| NL | 2023 | population.total_male | 8,850,309 | Eurostat | 2024-03 |
| NL | 2023 | population.total_male | 8,986,255 | UN WPP | 2024-07 |
Values as returned for the Netherlands in the DataGarden SDK documentation, two sources on one field. Publication dates are examples.
What it will answer
Questions that now take a morning of downloads.
What does this region look like?
Population, income, health, energy and economy for one country or region, on one page, from every source that covers it.
How do these regions compare?
Regions from different countries side by side, because the column names, region codes and periods already match.
Where does this number come from?
Every figure keeps its source and its publication date. When two sources disagree, you see both and choose.
Themes

Economics
GDP, inflation, labour market, productivity, trade balances and public finance.
Energy
Electricity generation and price, energy consumption and expenditure, and CO2 emissions.
Health
Causes of death, vaccination coverage, hospital capacity and health-monitor indicators.

Sources
13 official sources, and their coverage.
Supra-national bodies give the wide view; national institutes add detail down to postcode or neighbourhood level where they publish it.

For data teams
The same figures in your own code.
Everything in the Public Data Browser is also reachable through the DataGarden API and the Python SDK, the-datagarden on PyPI.
- The same harmonised fields as in the browser
- Load straight into a pandas or polars dataframe
- Country and regional GeoJSON to put the figures on a map
# pip install the-datagarden from the_datagarden import TheDataGardenAPI api = TheDataGardenAPI() nl = api.netherlands nl_demographics = nl.demographics() df = nl_demographics.full_model_to_polars() df["period", "source_name", "population.total_male"]
